Although adversities and troubles will occur, may 2010 be a year of growth and accomplishment. For each day is a new day. A new day and a new chance towards our goals and dreams.

Children are our future…

Posted in MO NEWS! with tags , , , , , , , , , , on December 23, 2009 by getmobetter

A wise man once said you can tell a lot about a society by the way they treat their children. Children are the future. Well for many children across the world, their futures are far from bright. This article talks about the large number of children in Haiti who work as slaves. Ironically, Haiti is most know for its Revolution and is the only country to have a successful slave revolt; which is seen as a defining moment in the history of Africans in the new world. However, slavery is alive and well in this country. These children are forced to work for nothing and are often sexually and physically abused. Haiti is not the only country facing similar problems with their youth. According to UNICEF 2.5 million children are sexually exploited in the multi-billion dollar sex industry. These children are all slaves to masters of evil.  This is a major issue even here in America. According to U.S. Department of Justice, an estimated 14,500 to 17,500 foreign nationals are trafficked into the United States each year. The number of U.S. citizens trafficked within the country is even higher, with an estimated 200,000 American children at risk for trafficking into the sex industry and over 50% are female. The number of missing children in the U.S. is rising and many become victims of trafficking. Around the world children are the top victims of war, poverty, sickness, abuse, and violence. So, if children are our future, then how does the world’s future look?  What does this say about our society ? As I ponder, the possible answers are sad… So as this decade comes to an end, may the future bring hope and much-needed change. May the very adversities our children face, fuel the fire that will burn it all away…

The price to smell good…

Posted in MO MOtifs! with tags , , , , , on December 18, 2009 by getmobetter

This holiday seasons evokes the spirit of giving. There is nothing like a nice holiday card from friends and family or a big box wrapped with a ribbon, resting underneath the Christmas tree. One of my favorite gifts to give and receive are perfumes and cologne. It is the perfect gift. I love them in gifts sets with matching lotions and soaps, it’s a no brainer. Who doesn’t like to smell good? Well maybe this holiday season one should research what goes into the perfumes/cologne they buy and wear. The designer names are cool but many products contain harmful chemicals that you could neither spell nor pronounce. If you Click Here you will see the ingredients to the popular Hugo Boss Cologne. Cosmetic Animal Testing is also behind these chemicals. Every year cosmetic companies kill millions of animals for testing, even though they are not required to by the FDA. These methods are harsh. In the Draize test, animals like rabbits or cats are conscious while caustic chemicals are placed in their eyes. These animals often scream and break their own necks and backs to escape restraint. Science has shown that animal testing is inaccurate and in fact there are effective alternatives. However, animals are cheaper and less of a liability. I am not a member of PETA and probably never will be but the facts are real. That pricey bottle of cologne and perfume that you spray on your neck and dab on your wrist is more than what you see. There are cosmetic companies out there that don’t use harmful products & do not animal test. So this holiday season, get informed…

Music & Sports!

Posted in MO NEWS! with tags , , , , , , , , , on December 8, 2009 by getmobetter

As a news junkie I am constantly reading crazy headlines like, Afghan War, 30,000  new troops, Healthcare debate, and the media’s recent favorite, Tiger Woods.  Amongst redundant news about a pro golfers mistresses and politics the headlines about music and sports save me from the monotony. In music, last week Grammy nominations came out and it will be exciting to see who wins. This article talks about the nominees and artist who surprisingly were not nominated in specific categories. My money is on Taylor Swift, when Kanye West snatched the microphone out of her hands at the VMAs earlier this year,  he ironically handed her every award she has been nominated for since. Then there’s the heavy weights like Beyoncé and The Black Eye Peas which will probably win numerous awards. I love when artist get nominated that I don’t know, gives me an opportunity to discover some new tunes and possibly become a fan. Next is sports, there is nothing quite like it. My favorite is Football and as the playoffs are nearing it’s interesting to see the unpredictability of the game. In College Football The Heisman Trophy will be awarded this weekend and this article list the nominees. Many winners of this prestigious award have ended up becoming great  NFL players and it will be excited to see who will win. In addition, Basketball, Hockey, and Soccer are all currently supplying fans like me with awesome seasons. So, as a lover of politics and news, I must admit there is nothing as great as … Music and Sports!

May they both continue to entertain billions across this crazy world…

Today is World AIDS Day… But for many, AIDS is not just a day but a life. Today as the world recognize AIDS and the battles behind it, I think of the millions who live and die with AIDs.  Take the time out to think of those who didn’t choose this prognosis but instead were raped, born and accidently taken by a disease which has no mercy. May the cause lead to a cure for all. Click Here and learn more about what you can do and what is being done today.

Reduced loan payments?

Posted in MO NEWS! with tags , , , , , , on November 29, 2009 by getmobetter

This past Thanksgiving many have realized how much they have to be thankful for. For example, if you have a job you are lucky, for there are millions who are unemployed and looking for work. If you have a house, you also should be thankful because the market is bad and foreclosures are as common as the cold. So this holiday season wouldn’t it be nice if the government could offer you and me some relief? Well this NY Times article talks about how the Obama Administration will start urging companies to reduce mortgage payments. Those who fail to lower payments will not get money from government. So this may mean relief for many struggling homeowners. Many critics say this will not make much of a difference; I say this is better than nothing. When the government can start thinking about helping the people instead of the banks, I am down. The only question I have, is why wasn’t this done sooner? More needs to be done to protect homeowners and hold mortgage companies accountable. In the meantime, I am very thankful. For in these tough times, me and so many others like me are still surviving.

What do you think about Mortgage Companies? and What else should the government do to help homeowners?

The queen of daytime TV is leaving… at least that is what she says. Today she announced “After much prayer and months of careful thought, I’ve decided the next season, season 25, will be the last season of ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show.’” Don’t start to miss her yet. Oprah will do one more season and will focus on other facets of media afterwards. This NY Times article tells us about exactly what her future holds and where we should expect to see her next. The rise of this dynamic woman has inspired many and I can just hear the millions of fans crying right now. There is only one Oprah but who will take her crown? or is there anyone as popular and outstanding to do so…? Will shall see…

The Healthcare Debate…

Posted in MO NEWS! with tags , , , , , , , , on November 15, 2009 by getmobetter

healthcareNever have three periods meant so much. The on going Healthcare debate is one that is riddled with so many opinions and point of views, it’s like a drama that never ends. We all have heard the endless new stories and headlines… but what does it all really mean? In recent weeks we have heard that the Democrats have abandoned a public option. Congressman, Alan Grayson, has become a Youtube star with his house speeches against the Republican opposition. Then there’s the insurance companies anti-trust exemption which comes from, the McCarran- Ferguson Act, which was passed to “protect” state regulation of insurance companies. However, insurance companies need antitrust immunity like America needs a another war. So it is no surprise that  health insurance premiums have soared through the roof and there’s no competition. So wouldn’t that call for a public option? Some say the repeal of the anti-trust exemption act would not make much of a difference for the real problem is federal and their lack of involvement, never really holding insurance companies accountable. This NY Times article discusses how many recent Democrat and Republican speeches for/against healthcare are echoing each other because they are identical, written by lobbyist working for Genentech, one of the world’s largest biotechnology companies. So who should we believe? and Do they have the publics best interest at heart? I would say no. Hundreds die a day due to lack of insurance and a pubic options in the long run can save lives and money. However, a public option hasn’t even been fought for. The Democrats have 60 votes, however many Senators have to think of how their own political careers and finances that would tank if they voted for the people. Ironically the very premise of their job is the very reason they choose not to carry it out right. This White House blog post talks about how health insurance companies will continue to profit from the status quo and a watered down bill.

So what’s the real debate? and is this the real change we the people need…?

Posted in MO NEWS! with tags , , , , on November 13, 2009 by getmobetter

Vice Presidential DebateYes, you read right, Sarah Palin is back. We all will be seeing and hearing more from this Alaskan hockey mom very soon. Her book is coming out next week and she has just began her media tour. This NY Times blog maps out this former politician’s plans. Oprah and Barbara Walters are just a few people she has visited this week. I can hear her accent right now which brings instant laughter and distain. She will be everywhere, so as long as you have television I am sure you will get to hear her story. A story about how she was offered a job she was not qualified for and then quit the job she already had.

This will be interesting…

lou-dobbsLou Dobbs has resigned. According to reports his resignation will be effective immediately. After CNN came in fourth for Election Night 2009 and the recent petitions that have been going around,”Lou Dobbs Tonight” will be no more. One of my most popular post was “Drop Dobbs ?” posted roughly a month ago. Many had different views on his style of  journalism and his racially charged debates. I am sure the king of controversy will have some great last words for his viewers. Be sure to tune in tomorrow night 7 pm ET on CNN.  Details are still unclear on exactly why but  many view this news as a victory… How do you feel?
